권혜조 Kwon, Hye Jo
권혜조(b.1960)는 Suppoment Gallery 전속작가로 활동하며, 국내외 유수의 전시와 아트페어를 통해 자신만의 회화 세계를 꾸준히 확장해오고 있는 중견 작가이다. 회화로 학사 과정을 마친 후 판화를 석사 전공으로 이어간 그녀는, 두 매체의 조형 언어를 바탕으로 한층 견고하고 섬세한 화면을 구축해왔다.
작가는 일상에서 마주하는 익숙한 풍경과 장면들—책을 읽는 인물, 창가의 화분, 여행지의 순간들—을 주제로 삼아, 그 안에 머무는 정서와 여운을 담아낸다. 단순한 재현을 넘어, 감정의 결을 따라 그려진 화면은 관람자에게 조용한 공감과 위로의 감각을 선사한다.
권혜조의 작업에서 특히 돋보이는 요소는 색에 대한 뛰어난 감각이다. 깊이 있으면서도 따뜻한 색조는 작품 전반에 정서적 밀도를 더하고, 절제된 구성과 더불어 고유의 회화적 리듬을 형성한다. 그녀는 색을 단순한 시각적 요소가 아닌 감정의 매개로 다루며, 그로 인해 화면은 시적인 감수성과 함께 고요한 생명력을 띤다.
‘Small Happiness’, ‘Library’, ‘Traveling Alone’ 등의 연작을 통해 권혜조는 여행지에서 포착한 찰나의 감정과 기억을 자신만의 언어로 치환하며, 일상 속에서 발견한 감정의 파편들을 회화로 환기시켜왔다.
지금까지 다섯 차례의 개인전과 100여 회 이상의 국내외 그룹전에 참여해온 그녀는, Kiaf SEOUL, Art Central Hong Kong, Art Taipei 등 주요 국제 아트페어를 통해 그 작품성과 감각적인 회화 세계를 널리 선보이고 있다. 그녀의 작품은 하나은행을 비롯한 국내외 주요 프라이빗 컬렉션에 소장되어 있으며, 따뜻한 감성과 조형적 밀도가 조화를 이루는 회화로 꾸준한 주목을 받고 있다.
Kwon Hyejo (b.1960) is a mid-career artist based in Seoul, currently represented by Suppoment Gallery. With a background in painting and a graduate degree in printmaking, Kwon has developed a distinctive visual language that blends the structural depth of print with the emotive, intuitive qualities of painting. Her work quietly captures the poetry of everyday life—moments of stillness, familiar interiors, and fleeting impressions gathered during travel.
Recurring motifs in her paintings—figures immersed in reading, sunlit potted plants, or serene corners of a foreign city—are rendered not simply as visual records but as emotional landscapes. Kwon's refined sense of composition, restrained brushwork, and nuanced color palette imbue each piece with a gentle yet resonant presence. Her sophisticated use of color functions as more than an aesthetic device; it becomes a vehicle for memory, atmosphere, and introspection.
In series such as Small Happiness, Library, and Traveling Alone, Kwon distills personal experiences and everyday beauty into works that offer viewers quiet moments of reflection. Her ability to evoke a sense of intimacy and stillness through form and tone has earned her steady recognition both in Korea and internationally.
Over the past three decades, Kwon has held five solo exhibitions and participated in over 100 group shows. Her works have been featured at major art fairs including Kiaf SEOUL, Art Central Hong Kong, and Art Taipei, and are included in prominent private collections in Korea and abroad—including Hana Bank. Kwon’s paintings continue to resonate with audiences through their gentle clarity, emotional depth, and refined painterly sensibility.
